CONTRIBUTORS

Xenia Bethancourt is a UAB Creative Writing student who works under the pen name Morgan Pratt. She has been writing for many years and has finally decided to begin to submit work for publication. She has participated in a small number of writing workshops and worked as a reader for the last issue of PMS: poemmemoirstory, which she found to be one of the most gratifying experiences of her life.

Katherine Butler is a senior BFA student concentrating in ceramic and photography.

Laurie Christolear is a freshman in the University Honors Program, studying creative writing and anthropology. In her free time, she loves to write, listen to music, watch movies, and read.

Ashley Cook is currently a freshman at UAB pursuing both a degree in English and Mass Communication. She is a published poet and a song writer. Upon graduation, she will be pursuing a career in Journalism.

Robert Conditt is currently a student at UAB pursuing a degree in Creative Writing. Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, he now lives in the St. Clair county area, where he has lived since coming to Alabama at the age of fifteen. He enjoys writing, reading, play the bass guitar and cultivating creativity where ever he can.

Mitchell Condra is a junior Pre-Nursing major from Vestavia Hills. Her favorite spots to photograph can be found in the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Along with photography, her hobbies include knitting and finding the perfect vegan chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Emily Cutler is a senior at Indian Springs School. Her work has appeared in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Teens Talk Middle School, Cicada Magazine, and the Able Muse Review. Most recently, she was named a YoungArts Finalist in Writing for 2012. Next year she plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania.

Tyler Dennis was born in Rainsville, Alabama, to two sock mill workers, primarily lives for smoking and Janet Jackson. He just completed his first novel, which will probably never see the light of a printing press. He recently got his first tattoo.

Sarah Domm is an enigma that floats around UAB’s campus surrounded in a halo of blonde hair. She enjoys doing nerdy things and then denying it to her friends.

Mollie Hawkins is an English major at UAB and enjoys writing about things she shouldn’t talk about. She’ll graduate eventually.

Lauren Humphries is currently a senior at UAB working towards completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration
in drawing. She plans on graduating in spring of 2013.

Razaq Kadri is an undergraduate at UAB, with a major in photography and a minor in film.

Sherei Lopez-Jackson is a senior at UAB majoring in International Studies with a focus in the Middle East. She has taken 5 semesters of Arabic, and is Minoring in Mass Communications with a focus in Journalism.

Bethany Mitchell graduated from UAB with a BA in journalism. She is the nonfiction editor intern at the nationally known publication, Poem Memoir Story, and she has served as Managing Editor for The Pioneer, Jefferson State Community College’s official newspaper. Her published work includes a variety of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and photography that has appeared in publications such as The Trussville Tribune, The Pioneer, and Wingspan Literary Arts Review. She is pursuing her MA in English: Creative Writing at UAB in the fall of 2012.

Ryan Meyer is Sophomore concentrating in graphic design with a digital film art minor.

Rob Needham is a graduate of Environmental Design from Texas A&M University. Prior to university, Rob received early accolades as an essayist, winning interscholastic competitions with the same style that simply annoyed his teachers on the day-to-day. Rob currently resides in Birmingham, Alabama, with his wife and son.

Derek Nelson is a new comer to the Birmingham area this year by starting his 1st semester of Nursing school. One of his favorite pastimes is to harness his creative side and put together a poem, song, joke, story or even photograph.

Nick Price is a junior International Studies major and Clinton Scholar, with minors in Linguistics, French, and Film.

Katyjean Sharpe earned part of her minor in Chinese by doing a study abroad in Beijing. Her stay in Beijing coincided partly with the 2008 Olympics. However, her interest in Chinese preceded her life at UAB.
Katyjean’s equivalent Chinese name is SHIZHEN 時 珍. A Chinese man suggested the name for two reasons. First, because of her drive to learn Mandarin Chinese. She would rise at 2:00 a.m. and study until 5:00 a.m., then go to work. Katyjean did that for several years. The second reason for the name Shizhen is– she beat cancer.
What does Shizhen mean? It means, time is precious.

George Abdalla Sawaya Jr. is a local Birmingham poet and fiction writer. He received a BA in English from the University of Alabama, and is currently seeking his MA in English with a concentration in creative writing from UAB.

Chris Suda is currently a Senior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is majoring in English and concentrating in Creative Writing. He writes poetry and is involved in three band projects called Philos Moore, Probably The Tornado, and experimenting with hip hop in Loveislight.

Cheyenne Taylor is a junior at UAB and life-long resident of Birmingham, who only recently realized it to be her home. She wants to do nothing but write, and will either figure out a way to make a living from it, or starve; whichever comes first.

Kathleen Tetzlaff is a senior molecular biology major with minors in chemistry and art studio.

Kathryn Thagard is a Birmingham local, and currently a student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She enjoys using historical events, art, and popular culture as her source of creativity.

Daniel Twieg earned his Associate’s Degree from Bessemer State Technical College. He is currently studying art at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His professional interests include graphic design, photography, filmmaking, website and motion graphics design. He also enjoys hockey, traveling, and music.

Lindsay Warner was passionate about art from an early age. She is a junior currently working on her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in ceramics and graphic design.

Elise Woodard is a freshman at UAB studying English with a concentration in creative writing.

Juanita Wooley is currently a freshman at the University of Alabama. She enjoys music, writing, reading as many books as she can and learning languages. She also enjoys creating her own form of poetry that she has yet to name.
